What will the Diplomas look like?

Group of youths in a classroom

Diplomas will bring together generic learning, including essential skills in English, maths and ICT.

Personal, learning and thinking skills are integrated into the assessment criteria for principal learning and can also be applied to the work placement and the project. At least 50% of the principal learning should be demonstrated as applied learning.

The units of assessment are based specifically on the sport and active leisure sector containing the themes of the sector and the individual, the environment and the community.

A key feature of the Diploma is the considerable employer involvement that has ensured that the employability skills employers in the industry require, such as teamwork and self management, are incorporated into the Diploma learning programme.

Students also have the option to include further additional/specialist learning units, which enable students to study particular topics in more depth.

The programme also includes a project, which will allow students to plan and organise their own learning. At the advanced level, students will be able to demonstrate project management skills that higher education institutions require.
