You will need Adobe Flash Player to view the video content.

Diplomas are part of the biggest reform programme in education for many years and have the potential to impact greatly on the HE sector.

The sector has played an important part in the development and has ensured that the Diplomas are suitable for progression into HE.

The Diploma will deliver both analytical and research skills through content relevant to the sport and active leisure industry.

"At last, a coherent, bridging framework that can link the different levels of education accessed by 14-19 year olds. The Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure promises to provide the much needed opportunities to gain the relevant and necessary vocational and academic skills needed to engage in employment and/or Higher Education."

Mentoring
model for Diploma learners

As part of the development of the Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure, SkillsActive and Leeds Metropolitan University will be jointly developing a mentoring model for diploma learners. The aim is to provide opportunities for undergraduate students to link with diploma students and provide mentoring in a range of areas. These will include orientation towards HE Learning and study pathways, support and stretch for students in particular topic areas and specific subject analysis development.

The project will be taking forward in the first instance by way of a final year project by a student at Leeds Metropolitan University from Sept 2009 to March 2010, he will be doing a mixture of desk based research and liaison with both HEI's and Diploma consortia. The aim is to produce a model which is suffieciently flexible to meet the needs of a wide range of diploma students and HEI's but also gives specific guidance to ensure that the mentoring provided adds real value to both diploma learners and to students.
