Gateway 4 Information

The delivery of Diplomas is rolling out towards national entitlement in 2013. the DCSF is mindful of the need to maintain the high quality of delivery which has been achieved through the Gateway 1-3 processes whilst recognising the added responsibility of local authorities to support their consortia, many of whom are now delivering across multiple lines of learning and will be moving towards the implementation of 17 lines in 2013.

There have been slight changes in the approach of Gateway 4 this year; now split into 2 parts, one for local authorities and one for consortia. Local Authorities are now required to produce a strategic plan which provides basic management information on their plans for the Diploma entitlement, guidance and an application template for which can be found on www.dcsf.gov.uk/14-19/G4LAGuidance and at http://gateway.camb-ed.com/apply for management information about employer engagement etc. The strategic plan which is due to be submitted by 25 November 2009 via http://gateway.cam-ed.com does not bare any effect on each consortia and will be the sole responsibility of the Local Authorities.

The process for reviewing the consortia bids is similar to that for Gateway 3 and is described below. PLEASE NOTE: The consortium application templates for Gateway 4 are different from those for Gateway 3 as there have been minor changes made so it is important to read the following guidance information carefully.

Line specific guidance for consortia

Consortia bids will need to be submitted to DCSF in early December 2009, with the first stage of gateway review in January 2010. Regional panels will be in February 2010 and the final moderation process in March 2010. These results should be made public by the end of March 2010.

This gateway announcement means that we will also know which schools and colleges will go forward to offer the diploma in September 2011.
