Ofsted Diploma Consultation

Ofsted have launched a consultation on changes to Diploma regulation. This document sets out the intended changes to the regulatory requirements for the 14-19 Diploma. It seeks views on proposals which will allow for delivery of the Diploma without a government operated results service where there is demand for it, retain robust regulation of all Diploma components, and allow for the development of new qualifications based on existing Diploma components. The consultation period has begun and closes on 5 September2011.

The consultation is available at: http://comment.ofqual.gov.uk/changes-to-diploma-regulation/

The proposals mostly concern the removal of central government funding for the Diploma aggregation service, leaving awarding bodies to organise their own arrangements for awarding a Diploma. The encouraging thing is that the Diplomas have not been abandoned.
