Arsenal In The Community sign up to Diploma Employer Champions Network

The Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure DDP are very pleased to announce Arsenal in the Community as the latest name to show their support for the Diploma, and join the Diploma Employer Champions Network (DECN).

Arsenal in the Community - which is the community facing part of the wider well known football club - aims to lead innovative sports development in the community through a variety of projects, the success of which is testament to the commitment and dedication of its staff, the power of football, and of Arsenal Football Club to touch people’s lives on a local, regional and global scale.

Having recently announced a partnership with the closely linked Football Association who will be developing a line of specialist learning, the Diploma will benefit from the knowledge, contacts and support that Arsenal in the Community will be able to offer. The fact that such a well known name has agreed to support the Diploma also shows that a significant step has been taken towards generating closer links to employers within the sector in an effort to increase awareness in preparation for first delivery in September 2010.

Alan Sefton, Head of Arsenal in the Community, said: “Arsenal in the Community has been at the forefront of innovative sports development in the local community for over 25 years. True to form, we are now playing an active role in a number of the new Diplomas - working with consortia in the local area on their bids and subsequent delivery.

“We are pleased to become an employer champion for the Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure as so much of the content of this Diploma is related to the work we do – offering a range of sporting, social inclusion, educational and charitable projects. Arsenal in the Community looks forward to the launch of the Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure in September 2010, and hopes it fulfils its mission statement of becoming the qualification of choice for young people wanting to work in the sector.”

Sue Hook, the DDP lead for the Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure said, “We are delighted to add Arsenal in the Community to the growing list of Employers who are recognising the potential of the Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure by signing up as official supporters. The increasing employer engagement and support for the Diploma sends out a very positive message to all young people thinking of taking the new Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure as one of their options in September 2010. Demonstrating as it does, the backing this qualification has from key employers and organisations in the sector.”
