The Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure will prepare young people in England for higher and further education as well as the world of work, in an innovative and exciting way, ultimately producing the high calibre of young people that employers need to meet business objectives within the industry.

Universities, colleges and employers have all been involved in the development of the Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure, in a bid to create what has the potential to become the ‘flagship’ qualification, as part of the 14-19 education reforms, for all 14-19 years olds wanting to enter the sport and active leisure sector in England.

SkillsActive has created a range of teaching resources designed to help you and your school deliver the Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure.  You can purchase lesson plans and teaching resources in easy to read Powerpoint presentations and PDFs covering delivery at Levels 2 and 3.

Diploma Update - 22/06/11

Ofsted have launched a consultation on changes to Diploma regulation. This document sets out the intended changes to the regulatory requirements for the 14-19 Diploma. It seeks views on proposals which will allow for delivery of the Diploma without a government operated results service where there is demand for it, retain robust regulation of all Diploma components, and allow for the development of new qualifications based on existing Diploma components. The consultation period has begun and closes on 5 September2011.

The consultation is available at: http://comment.ofqual.gov.uk/changes-to-diploma-regulation/

The proposals mostly concern the removal of central government funding for the Diploma aggregation service, leaving awarding bodies to organise their own arrangements for awarding a Diploma. The encouraging thing is that the Diplomas have not been abandoned
